Join us for the Hope In Our Blood Sickle Cell Awareness Walk—a powerful day of unity, remembrance, and action. Whether you’re walking in honor of a loved one, a warrior, or simply to support the cause, your presence matters.

Why Sickle Cell Awareness Matters

  • Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that affects more than 100,000 people in the U.S.; about 1 in 13 Black babies is born with sickle cell trait, and 1 in 365 Black babies is born with SCD.

  • Symptoms vary and may include jaundice, severe pain episodes (“pain crises”), fatigue, and swelling of hands/feet. Triggers include dehydration, temperature extremes, infection, and stress—making hydration and heat safety at outdoor events essential.

What to Expect

  • Tribute Walk: Reflection stations honoring loved ones affected by SCD.

  • Community Vibes: Live DJ, food trucks, vendor booths, nonprofit & health tables, and history highlights.

  • Health & Wellness: Vitals checks, mobile blood drive, and a health education station.

  • Special Stop: Aligned with the Black Towns Bike Tour stop in Tullahassee on Sept 20.

  • Join as an individual or a team of five.

  • Fees: $25/person or $100/team.

  • Registration due by Sept 10, 2025; kids 6 & under are free.

  • Form fields: Name, Email, Phone, “Who are you walking for?” (In Honor/In Memory), Team Name, Team Captain, T‑shirt size (YS–3XL).

Your support fuels awareness, family services, and advocacy in Oklahoma. Levels:

  • Gold – $1,000+ (premium logo on materials, recognition, booth, social spotlight, Tribute Wall listing)

  • Silver – $500+ (logo, vendor space, DJ mention, social thank‑you, Tribute Wall)

  • Bronze – $250+ (name on signage, group thank‑you, social acknowledgment)

  • Supporter – $100 (name in printed program, social thank‑you)

FAQs

Is this a family‑friendly walk? Yes—strollers welcome.
How far is the walk? Route length TBD; we’ll provide a map and rest/water stations.
Can I walk in honor/memory of someone? Yes—add names on the form; visit our Tribute Wall on site.
What about heat safety? Hydration is key; we’ll have water stations and shade. Dehydration and temperature extremes can trigger pain crises in SCD—please hydrate and rest as needed.
Are donations tax‑deductible? Yes.
What if it rains? Light‑rain or shine; severe weather plan will be announced via email/social.
Where do funds go? Proceeds benefit Supporters of Families with Sickle Cell Disease (Sickle Cell Oklahoma).
